“Family Guy” Spinoff “Stewie” Coming To FOX, Hulu & Disney+

Disney is looking to continue with the success of its adult-animated series, “Family Guy”, with a brand new spin-off series called “Stewie”.

According to the official description for the show, “After getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enrol in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line. It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject. Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable…until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.”

The new show is being created by 20th Television Animation and Seth MacFarlane, who will also return to provide the voice of “Stewie”. Seth will also be an executive producer along with Kara Vallow and Kirker Butler.

Seth said in a statement regarding the new show:

“I’d like to thank Fox for this incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to start pretending I’m collaborating closely with them on the show,”

Family Guy writer-producer Kirker Butler also added:

“I am honored and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television. I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name.”

“Stewie” has already been given a two-season order and is going to be targeting a 2027/28 season release on the FOX linear channel, with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu and internationally on Disney+. FOX and Hulu are sharing the cost of creating the show, which will consist of 15 episodes per season.

Back in 2025, Disney signed a multi-year deal with FOX to renew Seth MacFarlane’s other hit shows, “Family Guy” and “American Dad”, along with “The Simpsons” and “Bob’s Burgers”, to a four-year deal, which also lines up with when FOX’s Next Day contract with Hulu expires. It looks like the two-season order for “Stewie” also ties in with the timing of this deal.

“Family Guy” has been a massive hit for 20th Television, with over 450 episodes, along with another spinoff show, “The Cleveland Show”.   These shows can be streamed now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ in many countries around the world.

Roger’s Take:  “Family Guy” continues to be one of the most watched shows week to week, so leaning in more on Seth’s humour makes sense, and I’m surprised it’s not happened sooner.   It’ll also be interesting to see what happens with FOX’s involvement with these adult-animated shows in 2029, as a lot can change between now and then.  Disney might like the fact that FOX helps towards the costs of creating these shows, while benefiting from the streaming viewership around the world.  “Stewie” has always been my favourite “Family Guy” character, so I’ll certainly be checking this spinoff out.
