Ewan McGregor Says Disney Is “Exploring” Ideas For “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi” Season 2
Back in 2022, Lucasfilm released a brand new Star Wars series on Disney+, which saw Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, a character he played for the prequel trilogy. The series was set 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
While “Obi-Wan Kenobi” was a huge success in terms of viewership, many fans weren’t completely happy with the series and the general direction of Star Wars, as with each show released on Disney+, we’ve seen viewership decline.
There have been many fans wanting to see Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi since while it’s been billed as a limited series, this hasn’t stopped studios from extending shows into multiple seasons if they prove popular.
Disney has since changed its strategy on Star Wars, refocusing on theatrical releases, which will see “The Mandalorian & Grogu” hit cinemas in May 2026, rather than a fourth season of the show. Disney, in general, wants to release fewer expensive shows from brands like Marvel and Star Wars, putting a second season of “Kenobi” in doubt.
This past weekend, Ewan McGregor took part in a panel at the Los Angeles Comic-Con, where he spoke about the one Star Wars project that he’d like to work on, revealing that he would love to do a second season of “Obi-Wan Kenobi”.
He said that “we’re definitely hoping” to make more of the show to instead say “‘exploring’ that would be the word to say.”
Ewan was asked what he would like to do in a second season, to which he said:
“There’s a couple of things. I’d quite like to wear that armor, I was speaking to someone earlier, from the Clone Wars. I think that would be something that I would enjoy.”
One of the reasons he’d like to do another season is that they could use the de-ageing software to tell that part of the story and, more importantly,
“That way Hayden and I can really get back together again.”
Ewan also went on to explain that, either through flashbacks or not, there is still plenty of stories available to tell featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi.
“Obviously, between the end of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and when Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi, there’s got to be another few stories in there.”

Roger’s Take: There were many parts of the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series that I enjoyed, though I did have some issues with the show, such as Leia being kidnapped twice, which seemed a bit odd, and ultimately, it felt like a movie cut up into episodes, but they needed to fill it out a little.
I have zero doubt that Ewan McGregor wants to return to the role, either for fun or money! But that doesn’t mean it’s right to do so. We know from the events in the original film that Kenobi was hiding on the planet to protect Luke, and I don’t think there’s much reason to go back again to revisit the story and further complicate things. I also think Disney needs to move forward and stop trying to fill in the gaps between the movie trilogies. A second season or a spin-off movie feels unnecessary to me, but I certainly would expect some discussions have happened over the past two years about ideas to move forward, but will Bob Iger want to spend over a hundred million dollars on a second season nowadays? I’m not sure.
