Disney’s sports streaming service, ESPN+, is set to go through a major price rise from August 23rd 2022, with a 43% price increase, pushing the price from $6.99 a month/$69.99 a year to $9.99 a month /$99.99 a year.

Currently, the price rise doesn’t impact subscribers of the Disney Streaming Bundle, which includes Disney+ and Hulu. So this price hike, could push more people to subscribe to the Disney streaming bundle. However, it’s likely that the bundle price will probably change at some point in the future.

Disney has been slowly raising the price of ESPN+, as last year, it increased the monthly price from $5.99 to $6.99, and the year before that it raised it a dollar from the initial price of $4.99 a month.

Recently, ESPN has been spending millions of dollars on acquiring the rights to a variety of sports and events. With new deals being struck with the NHL, PGA Tour, NFL and for tennis events like Wimbledon. So this new price hike is likely to have been done to offset the cost of spending more money on more content.

By comparison, ESPN+’s main competitor, DAZN is charging double what the new ESPN+ price will be.

Over the past year, ESPN+ has been able to grow its subscriber base to over 22.3 million, but it’s still not making money, due to the low cost of the subscription.

Will you continue to subscribe to ESPN+?
