Disney’s 20th Century Studios is developing a brand new “Predator” film, which is called “Badlands”, following the success of “Prey” being released on Hulu and Disney+ a couple of years ago.

No plot details have yet been revealed about what the film will be about, such as when it might be set, as “Prey” was set hundreds of years ago, while the other films in the franchise have been set in the present day. The name could be an indication that the film will be set in the Badlands National Park in South Dakota or just be a reference to the movie’s location being in a dry terrain, which would make it visually different from the previous instalments, which have been in tropical rainforests, cities or the Northern Great Plains.

Deadline has revealed that Elle Fanning is in negotiations to star in the upcoming film. Elle has previously starred in Disney’s “Maleficent” movies and the hit Hulu series, “The Great”.

Following the success of “Prey”, which broke many streaming records, Dan Trachtenberg will return to direct “Badlands”. He has also co-written the movie with Patrick Aison.

While “Prey” was released directly onto Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ internationally, it’s not yet been confirmed if “Badlands” will released theatrically or straight onto streaming. Disney been releasing more films in cinemas than directly onto Disney+, with movies such as “Young Woman And The Sea”, “The Boogeyman” and the upcoming “Alien: Romulus”.

Many of the previous “Predator” movies are available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally.

Roger’s Take: Having seen Elle star in a number of different movies and shows over the years, it certainly would be great to see her take on more of an action role. This role will likely involve lots of running away from a Predator until she finally outsmarts it and kills it since that’s pretty much the story of every other “Predator” movie, yet it’s so satisfying when they do!
