“Ella McCay” Coming Soon To Disney+, Hulu, Digital, & Blu-Ray

Disney has announced details on the upcoming home video and streaming release of the latest 20th Century Studios film, “Ella McCay”, which shares the story of family life in all its challenging and comedic moments – plus everything in between.

“Ella McCay” follows an idealistic young woman juggling her less-than-perfect family with her passion for her work. From writer-director James L. Brooks, this fresh and heartwarming comedy is about the people you love and how to survive them.

The movie features an all-star cast including Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Spike Fearn, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Becky Ann Baker, Joey Brooks with Albert Brooks and Woody Harrelson. The film is produced by James L. Brooks, Richard Sakai, Julie Ansell and Jennifer Brooks.

Disney has announced that “Ella McCay” will be released on digital platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, on January 27th 2026.  It will also be released on physical media on Blu-Ray on March 3rd 2026.

Roger’s Take:  Disney only released “Ella McCay” in cinemas last month, and its streaming release on Hulu and Disney+ has been fast-tracked, as a film usually takes at least three months to hit streaming.  The reason for this quick release is likely down to its terrible box office numbers, pulling in just $4.5 million globally, so there is no benefit for Disney to keep it in cinemas. Also, it’s rare that Disney announces a streaming release at the same time as the digital release, since Disney usually wants to maximise digital sales, but it looks like they just want to get it out as fast as possible.

Hopefully, this film will reach a bigger audience when it arrives on Disney+ and Hulu, as expectations for movies on streaming services are lower, and it might find an audience.
