Dwayne Johnson Developing New Hawaii Themed Reality Series For Hulu
Many years ago, Disney’s 20th Television signed a first-look deal with Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions, to create unscripted projects, which included the Disney+ Original series, “Behind The Attraction” and the documentary, “Stuntman”. The company is also behind “Who Killed WCW?”, “Fighting Justice”, “The Smashing Machine”, “The Jungle Cruise” and the recent “Jumani” movies.
According to Deadline, a new untitled reality series is in development for Hulu that will be filmed in Hawaii and will “focus on the culturally diverse women of Hawai’i and showcase an authentic part of the island and its people”.
Casting is currently underway for the show, which will be executive-produced by Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Scott Landsman. This will be the first reality series from Seven Bucks Productions.
Hulu has had plenty of success lately with reality shows, such as “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives”, “Love Thy Nader” and “The Kardashians”.
Roger’s Take: The idea sounds like it could work, but ultimately it’s going to come down to who gets cast to appear in the show, as reality shows live or die on how the cast interacts with one another. If it’s too bland or doesn’t have enough drama, a reality show isn’t likely to last long.
