Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was on the stage to promote the upcoming “Moana 2” movie as part of the Disney Entertainment Showcase panel at the D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, where he announced he’s going to star in a brand new live-action movie called “Monster Jam”.

The movie is about monster trucks and will lean into the popularity of monster jam truck rallies and celebrating the biggest motorsport event in the world.    No other details on the film have been revealed.

Monster Jam is also a touring show that sees professional monster truck drivers compete against each other in races and freestyle competitions around the world to win the top prize.  The company also has a deal with Disney, with many of the trucks on the tour themed around Marvel characters.

“We got an opportunity here that we could create something that is immersive and cool and fun, and also a live-action experience for our families all around the world, from the POV of these incredible, iconic monster trucks and their very eccentric and crazy drivers.  Ladies and gentlemen, ‘Monster Jam’ is gonna be a heck of a ride.”

Johnson will also be producing this movie via his Seven Bucks Productions, which has an overall deal with Disney.   Dwayne has a long history of making live-action movies with Disney, including “Race To Witch Mountain”, “Jungle Cruise” and “The Game Plan”.

No release date for “Monster Jam” has been announced.  While it wasn’t confirmed, it’s likely we will see this movie released in cinemas rather than going straight to Disney+ since that strategy seems to have been dropped in favour of theatrical releases.
