Over the past few months, Walt Disney Studios has been filming the next installment in the “Tron” franchise, “Tron: Ares” in Vancouver, Canada.

The original film, released in 1982, told the story of Kevin Flynn, a software programmer who is dragged into a virtual world and pitted against a malevolent software. He seeks the help of Tron, a security program that helps him defeat the villain.

The new movie follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.

The film’s director, Joachim Rønning, has taken to social media to confirm that filming has now wrapped on “Tron: Ares”.

That’s a wrap on TRON:ARES 🥏 Thanks to an incredible and tireless crew, I really believe we pushed the filmmaking limits on this movie. Even through six weeks of night shoots you never slowed down. Also, a big thank you to our wonderful cast for leaving everything on screen. I can’t wait to show the world what we’ve done 🥏🥏🥏 #TronAres 📷 @leah.gallo.photography

With “Tron: Ares” currently scheduled to be released in cinemas on October 10th 2025, with filming wrapping now, this will give them over a year to complete all the special effects and do any reshoots/pick up shots.

“Tron: Ares” stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.

Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger are the film’s producers, and Russell Allen serves as executive producer.

While “Tron: Ares” will not probably arrive on Disney+ in early 2026, you can watch the two previous “Tron” movies and the animated series on Disney+ now.
