Last year, Disney announced it was making a brand new instalment in the “Descendants” franchise, which was going by the working title of “Pocketwatch”, and now Disney has officially confirmed on social media the upcoming Disney Original film will be called “Descendants: The Rise Of Red”.

The new film will take audiences through the rabbit hole to the hostile unincorporated territory of Wonderland, a magical, mysterious place made famous in “Alice in Wonderland.” The expansive new story introduces “Red,” the whip-smart and rebellious teenage daughter of the Queen of Hearts (“Alice in Wonderland”) and “Chloe,” the perfectionist and athletic daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming (“Cinderella”). In order to prevent an impending coup in Auradon – one that looms during the celebration of a new royal baby –, Red must join forces with Chloe to travel in back in time, via the White Rabbit’s pocket watch, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.   “Descendants: The Rise Of Red” will include seven original brand new songs.

Brandy and Rita Ora will star in the film as Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts, with China Anne McClain playing the role of “Uma”, Kylie Cantrall playing “Red” and Dara Reneé playing “Ulyana”. Also starring in the film will be Jeremy Swift and Leonardo Nam, who will be playing the roles of Principal Merlin and Maddox.  Additional cast include Sam Morelos (That 90s Show), Anthony Pyatt (When I’m With You), Peder Lindell (Out Of My Hands), Mars (Heather), Tristan Padil (The Lake Merritt Monster), Kabir Bery (Squatting), Grace Narducci (Law & Order: SVU) and newcomer Aiza Azaar.

This new Disney+ Original film is being directed by Jennifer Phang (“Advantageous,” “Half-Life,” “Foundation,” “The Flight Attendant”), who is also a co-executive producer of the movie. The film’s script is written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer (“Magic: The Gathering”). Returning to the franchise is production designer Mark Hofeling (“Descendants,” “Zombies,” “High School Musical”). Gary Marsh is an executive producer, and the casting directors are Alexis Frank Koczara and Christine Smith Shevchenko (Disney Branded Television’s upcoming “The Naughty Nine,” “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” “black-ish” and “grown-ish”).
