Disney’s ESPN Acquires “Fate Of A Sport” Documentary
Disney’s ESPN has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the documentary “Fate of a Sport”, which will premiere this week at the Tribeca Film Festival.
After enduring eleven years as one of the most dominant and controversial players in a professional lacrosse league that was anything but professional, Paul Rabil decides to take the game into his own hands. Partnering with his brother Mike Rabil, the Rabil brothers attempt to raise the capital, poach the top players, fight off lawsuits, and persevere through a global pandemic to change the trajectory of professional sports by launching the Premier Lacrosse League. To complicate matters, Paul must navigate the politics of playing in the league that he also runs.
“Fate Of A Sport” stars Paul Rabil, Mike Rabil, Jeffrey Wright, Adam Silver, Bill Belichick, Tom Rothman, Joe Tsai, Paul Carcaterra, Lyle Thompson, Kyle Harrison, Scotty Rodgers, Mike Levine, Brendan Kelly, Sandy Brown, Romar Dennis, Garrett Epple, Myles Jones, Michael Ehrhardt, Ryan Flanagan, Trevor Baptiste, Michael Sowers, Ji Thompson, Jean Anne Rabil, Allan Rabil, Dan “Big Cat” Katz, PFT Commenter, Gary Vaynerchuk, Peter Berg, Dr. Matt Provencher, Seth Meyers, Dylan Dryer, Sheinelle Jones, Dan Steir, Jon Miller, Ryan Boyle, Brendan Burke, Paul Burmeister, John Crawley, Scott Ratliff, Matthew Landis, Chris Bates, Nat St. Laurent, Ben Rubeor, Sean Quirk, and Teddy McCarthy.
The documentary is directed by Michael Doneger. LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron, Paul Rabil, and Mike Rabil are executive producers on the film.
No release details have yet been announced by Disney regarding when it will be available on ESPN, or other platforms such as Disney+ or Hulu.
