Disney+ To Launch Three New Tiers Including One With Ads In Canada
Disney has announced that it will be making some changes to Disney+ in Canada, with the launch of a new ad-supported tier, as a way of giving consumers more ways to subscribe than ever before and the ultimate flexibility in selecting a subscription plan that suits their needs. Disney has had lots of success with the successful ad-tier launch in the U.S and so on November 1st 2023, it will launch in Canada and several European countries.
Currently, there is only one tier of Disney+ available in Canada, which is going to be renamed Premium, which is going to be getting a price rise of $3 a month. However, the new Standard tier will be the same price as Disney+ is right now, but it doesn’t offer 4K video and is limited to just two screens being able to watch at the same time.
While the new ad-supported tier, is priced at just $7.99 a month, which does have some limitations but does offer a much cheaper alternative. Disney actually makes more money on someone being on the ad-supported tier than on the Premium version, so Disney is trying to encourage more people to shift over to the cheaper plan.
Jason Badal VP & GM Disney+, Canada said in a statement:
“The launch of our ad-supported plan demonstrates the importance of providing subscribers with value and choice. We are excited to bring this offering to Canadians and to our advertising partners across the country.”
The new Standard with Ads plan, in addition to Standard and Premium plans will be available in Canada beginning November 1:
