Disney+ Series of Shorts Rankings (2022)
Disney+ has introduced several original series of shorts to the service in 2022. They continue the stories from properties from the Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel. Viewers get to learn more about the characters from “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Zootopia,” “Cars,” “Big Hero 6” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Let’s rank the series that were released this year.
5. ZOOTOPIA+
This series takes a look at the adventures of the residents of Zootopia. It’s a fun series that serves its purpose well, but it did very little for me. I wanted a better narrative to follow. These are fun, and I would definitely recommend them to any fan of “Zootopia.” But it was the weakest series of shorts for me.
4. BAYMAX
This was the first of the five series of shorts to drop in 2022. In this series, we follow Baymax on his mission to help as many people as possible. There was no connecting narrative to this series, but I did enjoy seeing Baymax used in the way he was supposed to be used. Nothing stood out to me, but it still was cute. I only rank it higher because I enjoy “Big Hero 6” more than “Zootopia,” which I believe led me to enjoy “Baymax” more than “Zootopia+.”
3. I AM GROOT
In this series of shorts, we get to see some of what causes Groot to not be so nice. We get to see how the seedling interacts with several other characters we haven’t met before. This series was set up in a very unusual way. And even though there isn’t a true overarching narrative, the shorts did tend to build on each other.
2. STAR WARS: TALES OF THE JEDI
This series of six shorts gives us a closer look at the lives of two very popular characters from the “Star Wars” prequel era: Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. Three of these shorts help us define Ahsoka while the other three help us define Dooku. These shorts were a lot of fun for anyone who considers themselves a fan of prequel era “Star Wars.”
1. CARS ON THE ROAD
This was my personal favorite series of shorts this year. It had an overarching narrative that I preferred. It brought back some of my favorite characters from my favorite Pixar property. It’s a bit predictable, but for my money, it was the best series of shorts on Disney+ in 2022.
That’s my rankings. But what about you? How would you rank them?
