Disney has enjoyed lots of success with the live-action remakes of its animated classics, with “Beauty And The Beast”, “Aladdin”, and “The Lion King”, along with many others, including “Jungle Book”, “Cinderella”, “Lady & The Tramp”, “Pinocchio”, “Peter Pan & Wendy” and most recently, “The Little Mermaid”.

There are currently many more live-action remakes currently in development, including “Snow White”, “Moana”, “Hercules”, and “Lilo & Stitch”.   But according to The DisInsider, Disney is also working on a live-action version of the smash hit animated film, “Tangled”.

The original film was released in 2010 and told the story of what happens when the kingdom’s most wanted—and most charming—bandit, Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi), hides out in a mysterious tower, he’s taken hostage by Rapunzel (Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn’s curious captor, who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief, and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse (Maximus), an over-protective chameleon (Pascal), and a gruff gang of pub thugs.

No other details about this new version have been revealed, such as how far into development it is or if any writers, directors or executive producers are attached to the project.  Nor if we will see Mandy Moore or Zachery Levi return to the screens, either as another character or in a cameo.   And with the writer’s and actor’s strikes underway, it’s unlikely we will know anything for a while.

It’s important to note that Disney hasn’t officially announced its creation of a “Tangled” live-action adaptation, so it should still be treated as a rumour.    With audiences becoming less enthusiastic about live-action remakes, prequels, sequels, and franchises in general, especially following the reaction to on-set images of the new “Snow White” film leaking onto the internet and the backlash of announcing a “Moana” remake just years after the animated film came out, Disney may decide to hold off on this project for a while longer.

The original “Tangled” film and the animated series are available to stream now on Disney+.
