With the end of 2023 upon us, it’s naturally time to take a look back at what’s been popular over the past year. While the studios might not necessarily care what the most watched shows of the year were, TorrentFreak has revealed the year’s top ten most popular pirated shows based on BitTorrent traffic.

With so many different streaming platforms available, many fans resort to piracy to enjoy the latest shows, rather than paying a subscription fee.

Disney+ Originals made up four out of the top five most pirated shows of the year, with all of the Star Wars and Marvel shows falling just short of the live-action adaptation of the hit video game, “The Last Of Us”.

Here are the top ten most pirated shows of the year:

  1. The Last of Us – HBO
  2. The Mandalorian – Disney+
  3. Loki – Disney+
  4. Ahsoka – Disney+
  5. Secret Invasion – Disney+
  6. Silo – Apple TV
  7. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters – Apple TV
  8. Tulsa King – Paramount+
  9. Gen V – Amazon Prime
  10. Ted Lasso – Apple TV

It’s noticeable that no original Netflix shows made the list this year, either because people weren’t as interested or, more likely, because more people are subscribed to Netflix and, thus, less likely to be pirated.

As the streaming world is so fragmented, many people resort to piracy rather than subscribing to another streaming service, especially if they only want to watch a single show.

While the ad-supported tiers of streaming services do keep costs down for subscribers, many viewers aren’t happy watching shows with commercials.
