The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards have been announced today during a presentation hosted by Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Disney has had a successful haul of nominations, with  Pixar’s “Elemental” picking up a nomination for Best Animated Film and will go up against Sony’s Marvel film, “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” and former Disney movie, “Nimona”.

20th Century Studios “The Creator” was nominated for two awards for its special effects and sound.  Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3” also picked up a Best Visual Effects nomination.   “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” was nominated for its soundtrack. The upcoming Disney+ Original short, “Nǎi Nai and Wài Pó”, also picked up a nomination in the Best Short category. National Geographic’s “Bobi Wine For President” was nominated for Best Documentary.

Searchlight Pictures’ “Poor Things” dominated the nominations, with eleven nominations for “Poor Things, including Best Film, Best Actress and Best Director.    “Flamin Hot” also picked up a nomination for Best Song.  The documentary, “The Last Repair Shop”, was also nominated for Best Short Documentary, and that short was added onto Disney+ earlier today.

The Oscar’s award show will air live on ABC on March 10th 2024 and it will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.   Members of the Academy are now going to be voting on who they want to win.
