Disney has announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival that it has renewed the hit preschool series, “Disney Jr’s Ariel: The Little Mermaid” for a second season.

“Disney Jr. Ariel: The Little Mermaid” is an animated musical series inspired by “The Little Mermaid” that follows young mermaid princess Ariel as she embarks on fun-filled, action-packed adventures with her friends throughout their Caribbean-inspired fairytale kingdom of Atlantica.

Geared towards preschoolers and their families, each episode features two 11-minute stories that highlight themes of community, self-expression, curiosity, and resourcefulness, and celebrate the multicultural elements of the Caribbean through music, food, festivals, fashion, language, and folklore.

Season two sees Ariel and her friends adventure through the ocean, help their fellow sea creatures, and discover a magical new undersea world.

The animated musical series features a talented voice cast, which includes Mykal-Michelle Harris starring as the titular young mermaid princess.  Taye Diggs plays her father, King Triton, and Amber Riley as her “Tauntie” Ursula.  Also starring in the show is Elizabeth Phoenix Caro as Lucia, Cruz Flateau as Fernie, and Gracen Newton as Flounder. Kevin Michael Richardson lends his voice to Sebastian, while Dana Heath and Jessica Mikayla portray Ariel’s twin older sisters, Ayanna and Alanna.

Also starring in the show are Parvesh Cheena as Ravi, Yvette Nicole Brown as Aquatica, Danni Washington as Tantie Chantale, Alanna Ubach as Cristina Cuttles, Melissa Villaseñor as Navi, and Ron Funches as Delfino

The show has been produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Jr. for Disney Branded Television.  It has been executive produced by Lynne Southerland.

No release date has been announced for the second season of “Disney Jr’s Ariel: The Little Mermaid” on Disney+. The first season is available to stream now on Disney+.
