Disney is developing a brand new live-action series of its classic 90s animated series, “Gargoyles”, for Disney+ and it is going to be created by Gary Dauberman, who will be writing, executive producing and showrunning the project.

The animated series tells the stories of Goliath and his clan of gargoyles, who, in Scotland, 994 A.D., are sworn to defend a medieval castle. Goliath has been tricked by humans and discovers that his entire clan has been destroyed. He and the remaining gargoyles are cursed to sleep for 1,000 years. Billionaire David Xanatos buys the castle and moves it to New York City, making it his headquarters. When the castle is attacked, the gargoyles are awakened and discovered by detectives Elisa Maza and David Xanatos. The gargoyles try to go unnoticed while battling both old and new enemies. Stone by day, warriors by night, we are Gargoyles.

The original “Gargoyles” series ran for three seasons and aired from 1994 until 1997. All three seasons are available to stream now on Disney+.

According to THR, Atomic Monster will be producing the series, which is run by James Wan and Michael Clear, who will be executive producers of the series. Atomic Monster has previously created many horror films, including “M3GAN”, “Mortal Kombat” and “Annabelle”.

Gary Dauberman has previously written a number of horror films, including “Annabelle”, “Salem’s Lot”, “The Nun”, and the DC series, “Swamp Thing”. So, while Gary’s history is more in the horror genre, it’ll be interesting to see how this adaptation is approached.

This won’t be the first time Disney has tried to adapt “Gargoyles” into live-action, as they had tried making a live-action film, but following the failure of “Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, plans were halted.
