Disney Delay’s 20th Century Studios’ “The Amateur”
Disney has announced that it has delayed the release of the 20th Century Studios thriller, “The Amateur”, which is about a CIA cryptographer who, after his wife is tragically killed in a London terrorist attack, demands his bosses go after them. When it becomes clear, they won’t act due to conflicting internal priorities. He blackmails the agency into training him and letting him go after them himself.
The upcoming film stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Adrian Martinez, Laurence Fishburne, Holt McCallany and Julianne Nicholson.
“Amateur” is being directed by James Hawes, who has previously worked on “One Life”. The movie has been written by Gary Spinelli, who previously worked on “American Made”, and Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson will produce it. Rami Malek will also be a producer on the film. The movie is based on the book by Robert Littell.
Originally, the film was scheduled to arrive in cinemas on November 8th 2024, but now it will be released five months later, on April 11th 2025. And as with other theatrical releases, expect to see “The Amateur” released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world a few months later.
Filming on the movie was impacted by last summer’s actor and writer’s strike, which caused production to pause until December, so it’s likely they want a little longer to get the movie sorted due to that delay.
