Disney Consolidates Casting Of ABC, Hulu, Onyx Collective, 20th TV & ABC Signature
With Disney looking to reduce costs, it has been revealed that the company is streamlining its casting operations for its studios, including Disney Branded TV, Hulu, ABC, 20th TV and Onyx Collective.
To go along with the recent layoffs, the head of casting at Disney Entertainment Television, Sharon Klein, has streamlined her oversight, similar to how the division has changed how it handles production and programming across all of its studios.
Each studio will keep some dedicated leaders in place for casting, with Brenda Kelly-Grant at Disney Branded Television, and Felicia Joseph at Hulu, ABC and Onyx Collective. Stephanie Levinson at 20th Television studio, though she will now also oversee ABC Signature Studios, bringing up more questions about whether Disney will eventually merge those two studios.
Barbara Fiorentino, who was Hulu’s Head of Casting, will now be moving into a new international casting role, which will focus on bringing international talent to domestic shows. The role of Hulu’s Head Of Casting will be replaced by Lindsey Kasabian, who previously worked for Freeform, which no longer makes scripted content.
Roger’s Take: With Disney having so many different studios creating content for its streaming services and linear channels, we’ve seen how Disney has looked to consolidate some of the roles, which makes sense financially and also to streamline how the division runs.
