Last year, Disney opened a brand new first-of-its-kind immersive adventure experience called, the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” in Walt Disney World in Florida, which offered a unique vacation experience going beyond anything Disney has created before.

Guests become the heroes of their own Star Wars stories during a two-night adventure aboard the Halcyon starcruiser, a vessel known for its impeccable service and exotic destinations. Passengers relax in well-appointed cabins, enjoy exquisite dining and out-of-this-world entertainment, experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in new ways, and explore the ship in search of hidden secrets and new opportunities.

Throughout the voyage, guests’ choices determine their personal stories as they interact with characters, crew and other passengers, becoming part of the action and the broader Star Wars saga. They may be asked to keep a secret, deliver a covert message, take part in a high-stakes heist, defend the ship, hide an ally … the possibilities are seemingly endless. Decisions guests make affect how these tales unfold, intertwining with those of other passengers and well-known characters such as Chewbacca and Rey as momentum builds on an action-packed adventure that may determine the fate of the galaxy.

However, the experience comes at a high price, often costing more than a trip on the Disney Cruise Line, and it quickly became noticeable that Disney was having trouble filling the hundred-room experience.  This is why recently, Disney revealed that it would be closing down the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” in September

The final voyage for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will take place September 28-30, 2023. We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months. Thank you to our Guests and fans for making this experience so special.

With Disney looking to save around $5.5 billion in cost-cutting, the entire project has been scrapped as a massive write-off of around $300 million.   But prior to the decision to write the entire project off, according to TheWrap, Disney was brainstorming ideas to try to save the project, which included an idea to completely retheme the Starcruiser to the Disney+ series, “The Mandalorian”.

Since “The Mandalorian” arrived on Disney+, it has captured the hearts of Star Wars fans, but unfortunately, retheming the whole experience, would have resulted in more expense, as new costumes and set pieces would have to be created, new scripts written and the time required to make these changes.    Disney has already brought Mando and Grogu to the parks for special meet & greet experiences, which have been very popular with park guests.

Other ideas being floated around to save the project, included an option to have a much shorter single-day experience, but ultimately, the decision was made that the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” would close, and the news that it is set to close in September, has resulted in the remaining slots, selling out, as Star Wars fans flocked to see this unique experience before it’s closed down.

We don’t know what else will happen with the building of the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser”; turning it into a Star Wars-themed hotel might be possible, or it could be completely demolished, and something else is put in its place.

Do you think a “Mandalorian” makeover of the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” could have worked?  Or was the project just doomed?  Let us know on social media!
