Earlier this year, during Bob Iger’s first quarterly financial call since returning as the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, he announced a third “Frozen” film was in development from the Walt Disney Animation Studio.

And last month, at the London Film Festival, Walt Disney Animations Chief Creative Officer, Jennifer Lee shared that she was blown away and excited about the upcoming third film.

Recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke on Good Morning America to promote the upcoming opening of World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort!  Where he spoke about the world’s first Frozen-themed land, which opens on November 20th 2023.  The new world includes two attractions, Frozen Ever After and Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs, dining, shopping, plus a first-of-its-kind theatrical experience with Anna and Elsa.

During that interview, Bob Iger also further teased that “Frozen 3” was in development and that there might be a fourth “Frozen” film also in the works, but he didn’t share much more than that.

“Well, I’ll give you a little surprise there, Michael. ‘Frozen 3’ is in the works and there might be a ‘Frozen 4’ in the works too.  But I don’t have much to say about those films right now.  But Jenn Lee, who created ‘Frozen,’ the original ‘Frozen’ and ‘Frozen II,’ is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.”

With Walt Disney Animation struggling to pull in audiences at cinemas with its latest films like “Strange World”, Disney is going back to focusing on its most profitable franchises and since “Frozen” is one of the biggest hits they’ve had, it only makes sense that Disney would want to continue to build on this franchise.

In the first film, Snow Queen Elsa inadvertently uses her power to make her kingdom experience constant wintriness. Her sister Anna teams up with mountaineer Kristoff and his reindeer to demolish the snowy spell.

While we wait for the third and fourth “Frozen” films, we can catch the first two movies, along with a selection of shorts featuring Anna, Elsa and Olaf on Disney+ now.
