Today, the Walt Disney Company has released its latest quarterly results for the fiscal fourth quarter of 2024, and that means we get an updated look at how many subscribers Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ have.

This gives us a clear indication of how the apps are doing, especially with growth or decline in subscriber numbers.  These subscriber numbers are based on how many there were on September 28th, 2024.

Disney+ now has over 158.6 million subscribers globally, which is up over 4.4 million from 153.6 million subscribers last quarter.   In the US and Canada, Disney+ now has 56.0 million subscribers, up over a million over the previous quarter.

While internationally, Disney+ Core gained around three million new subscribers, while Disney+ Hotstar also had a slight boost in subcribers.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement:

This was a pivotal and successful year for The Walt Disney Company, and thanks to the significant progress we’ve made, we have emerged from a period of considerable challenges and disruption well positioned for growth and optimistic about our future,” said Robert A. Iger, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “Our solid performance in the fiscal fourth quarter reflected the success of our strategic efforts to improve quality, innovation, efficiency, and value creation. In Q4 we saw one of the best quarters in the history of our film studio, improved profitability in our streaming businesses, a record-breaking 60 Emmy Awards for the company, the continued power of live sports, and the unveiling of an impressive collection of new projects coming to our Experiences segment. As a result of our strategies and our focus on managing our businesses for both the near- and long-term, we are differentiating ourselves from traditional competitors, leveraging the deepest and broadest set of entertainment assets in the industry to drive attractive returns and further advance our goals.”

Disney has also provided a detailed breakdown per region: (Million)

  • Disney+ – Global – 158.6
  • Disney+ – Domestic (US & Canada) – 56.0
  • Disney+ – International excluding Disney+ Hotstar+ – 66.7
  • Disney+ Core – (excluding Hotstar) – 122.7
  • Disney+ Hotstar – 35.9
  • Hulu –  Million Subscribers (US Only) – 47.4

To compare, here are the subscription numbers (Millions) from August’s Investor Call:

  • Disney+ – Global – 153.8
  • Disney+ – Domestic (US & Canada) – 54.8
  • Disney+ – International excluding Disney+ Hotstar+ – 63.5
  • Disney+ Core – (excluding Hotstar) – 118.3
  • Disney+ Hotstar – 35.5
  • Hulu –  Million Subscribers (US Only) – 51.1

Roger’s Take:  It’s certainly a good quarter for Disney+ subscriber numbers, and it’s also important that the streaming service hit profitability, which was a major milestone.   The question is how many of these signed up for the cheap offer in September or have been impacted by the account sharing crackdown.
