To tie in with National American Sign Language (ASL) Day on April 15th 2023, Disney+ has added a new ASL version of Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man” in the United States.

The ASL Video service was created by Deluxe in partnership with Grupo Steno, with Delbert Whetter, of RespectAbility, joining the project as a daily consult on ASL best practices and to help build Creative Guidelines. Additionally, Douglas Ridloff — who has previously worked on other Marvel Studios titles involving ASL, including “Eternals” and “Hawkeye” — joined to work with the ASL performer, Jac Cook.

Delbert Whetter explained to Marvel.com.

“The Deaf creatives on the team, which include Douglas Ridloff and ASL performer, Jac Cook, exceeded expectations as they set out to communicate Ant-Man’s entertaining dialogue and sound effects in a manner befitting Marvel’s distinctive style, subversive humor, and high-velocity action.“

In the MCU’s first introduction to Scott Lang, the master thief must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Doctor Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

To access the feature with ASL, you’ll find it under the EXTRAS tab on the ANT-MAN page on Disney+.

No other details have been announced if other films will also be offered in ASL, but hopefully, this is something Disney will roll out to other films and other countries.  In the meantime, there is a Chrome extension called, SignUp, which offers ASL versions of many films, including “The Incredibles”, “Moana”, and “Frozen”.
