Marvel Studios has been very quiet about its plans post the next “Avengers” movies, but it looks like we are going to be once again returning to Wakanda as during an interview with People, Denzel Washington was promoting his latest film, “Gladiator 2”, which hits cinemas this month.

He revealed that since he is now 70 years old, he only has a few more movies left in him and he wants to do things he hasn’t done before. One of those final films is going to be the third “Black Panther” film.

“ Especially at this point in my career, I am only interested in working with the best,” Washington said. “I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done. I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70. After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next ‘Black Panther.’ After that, I’m going to do the film ‘Othello,’ After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”

Officially, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced a third “Black Panther” movie, as the studio has become more selective on how many projects it makes, as it reduces the amount of shows and films it makes to refocus on quality.

Just this past weekend, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke at the D23 Brazil event about how they are only looking to make a couple of films and a few series each year.

With Denzel set to film several different movies before working on the third “Black Panther” movie, it’s likely going to be a few more years before we see it hit the big screen, possibly after the events of “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

Roger’s Take: No doubt the heads at Marvel Studios aren’t going to be happy that Denzel has let the cat—or should that be “Black Panther”—out of the hat, but considering the superhero has spawned two billion-dollar films, it should be expected that Marvel will once again return to Wakanda.

You can watch the first two “Black Panther” films on Disney+ now and the animated series, “Eyes Of Wakanda” hits Disney+ in August 2025.
