This past weekend, Disney released the latest Marvel Studios movie, “Deadpool & Wolverine” in cinemas around the world and the film has gone on to break box office records.

The movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds reviving his role as the chatty Deadpool, who is teaming up with Hugh Jackman, who has revived his role in the iconic X-Men, Wolverine, has pulled in an estimated $438.3 million globally, including $205 million domestically over its opening weekend,

That makes “Deadpool & Wolverine” the highest-grossing global opening for an R-rated film in box office history, surpassing “Deadpool” in 2016.

Domestically, it was the 8th highest-grossing opening of all time, the highest July opening weekend of all-time (surpassing 2019’s “The Lion King”), the biggest opening since 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, and the second largest opening for a third installment behind only 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”.

Compared to some of the most recent releases, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” only pulled in $476 million in its entire run and “The Marvel’s only brought in $206 million.  Highlighting just how successful “Deadpool & Wolverine” has been.

It’s also worth pointing out that Disney has released the No.1 title for May (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), June (Inside Out 2), and July (Deadpool & Wolverine).

Roger’s Take: “Deadpool & Wolverine” is out now in cinemas, and with its huge success at the box office, this will likely result in the movie taking much longer to arrive on Disney+ since Disney will want to try to make as much money as possible from the film. I also think this movie is going to continue to pull in plenty more at the box office due to repeat viewing.  We saw
