Daredevil: Born Again – Season 2 | Disney+ Original Review

This March, Daredevil returns to Disney+ in a brand new season of “Daredevil: Born Again”, which picks up where the last season ended with Mayor Wilson Fisk crushing New York City underfoot as he hunts down public enemy number one, the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante known as Daredevil. But beneath the horned mask, Matt Murdock will try to fight back from the shadows to tear down the Kingpin’s corrupt empire and redeem his home.

Over the course of eight episodes, all of which are over 45 minutes in length, we get to see the real return of “Daredevil”, going back to what made everyone fall in love with this show over ten years ago.

During the process of bringing “Daredevil” back to our screens, the creative team underwent major changes due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, which led to a new team taking over and requiring a reformat of the first season.  Part of that creative change was making “Daredevil: Born Again” a continuation of the former Netflix originals, rather than taking part in a multiverse.  It’s much clearer in this second season how that shift benefited everyone, as we see the return of Jessica Jones, along with other connections to what we’ve seen before.

Season two of “Daredevil: Born Again” is, without doubt, one of the best Marvel shows I’ve seen on Disney+ since “WandaVision”.  This second season fixes everything wrong with the first season, i.e., Daredevil is in action in every episode, but it just feels like the old “Netflix” show.  It has plenty of big, violent action scenes, with hard-hitting storylines that play very nicely into the current political climate, making it feel much more realistic.

I loved every episode and over the course of two nights binged my way through the entire season, without a second thought about wanting to watch anything else or even touching my phone.  The tension kept building throughout, with some great cliffhangers that made me want to watch the next episode.

Unfortunately, Disney is releasing this show week to week, but I think that will probably help keep engagement in this show for a couple of months, rather than people exploding through the entire season in 2 days, as I did.

There is so much about this second season that impressed me.  The visual effects for Daredevil looked better, and there are plenty of big action scenes, including multiple iconic hallway fight scenes.  Throw in some fantastic supporting characters and subplots that keep the storyline constantly moving forward, but also building pace towards the big finale.

This is a return to form for Marvel and highlights how, when done properly, TV shows can deliver something unique, more grounded, but equal to movies, if presented in the right way.

“Daredevil: Born Again” season two is well worth checking out on Disney+, and a must-watch for all adult superhero fans, as this isn’t for little ones.

Rating: 5 Out Of 5

The first episode of the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” will be released on March 24th at 6 p.m. PT, exclusively on Disney+, with a new episode released each week.
