Two years ago at the Star Wars Celebration event in London, England, it was announced that Daisy Ridley would be returning to reprise her role as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars film, set years after the events of “The Rise Of Skywalker” and will focus on Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who has previously directed the Disney+ Original series “Ms. Marvel”, will direct the upcoming film. Originally, Steven Knight, who has worked on Peaky Blinders, was writing the movie, but he stepped away from the project and was replaced by George Nolfi, who has previously written “The Adjustment Bureau ” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.”

During a recent interview with ComicBook to promote her new film, “Cleaner,” Daisy Ridley was asked about the upcoming Star Wars film, to which she replied:

“I have not read the latest script, but I know what’s happening, and I know the story, and I think what feels really good is that George is a phenomenal writer.  I think we’re making sure that this story is the best way, this script is the best way to tell the story, and I think it will be worthwhile. for everyone watching it, and I am very excited, yeah.”

Currently, very little is known about the upcoming Star Wars film, such as its plot, who else will star in it besides Daisy, or when it will be released.

We’ve seen Lucasfilm drastically reduce the number of projects it puts into production, following the Star Wars franchise becoming overexposed due to too many films and shows released over the past decade.

Later this year, the second season of “Andor: A Star Wars Story” is due to arrive on Disney+ in April, and “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is set to hit cinemas in May 2026.    A second season of “Ahsoka” is also currently in development for Disney+.

Roger’s Take: While Lucasfilm has announced multiple films in development, it’s struggled to get any of them into production and while I’d love to see a continuation of Rey’s story, it does feel like it’s going to be many years until we see it arrive in cinemas.
