Way back at the Investor Day event in 2020, a brand-new animated spin-off series of the Walt Disney Animated classic, “Princess And The Frog”, called “Tiana” was announced to be in development for Disney+.

This new long-form musical-comedy series features the extraordinary entrepreneur who’s now the princess of the kingdom of Maldonia. The all-new adventures explore both Maldonia and Tiana’s beloved hometown, New Orleans. Tiana is the first princess to have her own Walt Disney Animation Studios series.

Originally, it was announced that the show would arrive on Disney+ in 2023. However, the show is still a while off being released, though we have had an update at the D23: Ultimate Fan Event, earlier today, Disney held a special panel on the Premiere Stage called “Disney Princess: Creating Tiana’s World”.

The panel featured the voice of “Tiana”, Anika Noni Rose, along with the “Tiana” series director Joyce Sherrí, and creative executive Carmen Smith for an inspiring conversation as we peek into all the ways Tiana’s iconic story and vibrant world continue to be brought to life.

During the panel, it was confirmed that the series is still in production and that Tiana’s story is “far from finished” after the events of “The Princess And The Frog”.  It was also revealed that the show is going to see Tiana learning about how the world is much bigger and more magical than she knows.

It was also revealed the ‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’ attraction at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World and Disneyland (which opens on November 15th), has some easter eggs for the upcoming Disney+ show.   The attraction has replaced the classic “Splash Mountain” attraction.

Roger’s Take:  Like many of the projects announced at the Investor Day in 2020, “Tiana” was announced way too early and leaving fans waiting for an animated series for years isn’t good, especially considering how few updates there have been over the show.  With the panel being focused more on the 15th anniversary of “Princess And The Frog”, with discussions also around the ‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’ attraction, there wasn’t much information provided on the new series, such as when it might be released, so it sounds like its a way off yet.
