Earlier this summer, Marvel Studios was filming the third instalment in the “Deadpool” franchise in the United Kingdom, which will see Ryan Reynolds return as the Merc with a Mouth, along with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. Also starring in the film will be “The Crown‘s” Emma Corrin and “Succession‘s” Matthew Macfadyen, along with the returning Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli KutsunaKaran Soni, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Jennifer Garner, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic.

However, filming was suspended when SAG-AFTRA went on strike in July, which depending on how long the actor’s strike goes on for, may result in the film being delayed.

Currently, “Deadpool 3” is scheduled to be released on May 3rd, 2024, and it will be the first rated-R film from Marvel Studios. However, a new slideshow was released for Disney’s latest quarterly financial results, highlighting some of the shows and films that they’ve got coming out over the next year.

Unfortunately, “Deadpool 3” hasn’t been listed on this document, even though two of the films are scheduled to be released after “Deadpool 3”. Now it is important to stress that this document doesn’t include every show or film Disney has scheduled to be released.  We also know that filming has been completed on many of these projects, most of which are already completed.  Though work is still ongoing on “Elio” and “Inside Out 2”, but animation works slightly differently from live-action.

With filming still to be finished on “Deadpool 3”, the longer the actor’s strike continues, the higher chance of “Deadpool 3” being delayed. But also, Disney is hedging its bets, by not including upcoming theatrical releases that haven’t been completed.

With Disney looking to scale back and slow down how many Marvel projects are being released, having an enforced break in the release schedule may help improve many aspects of the MCU, including visual effects, and story, plus maybe slow down the superhero fatigue.

Shawn Levy will be directing “Deadpool 3”, and it has been written by Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will be a producer on the film, along with Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds.

While we wait for the new film, the first two “Deadpool” films and “Logan” are available to stream now on Disney+.
