Last week, Marvel released the season finale of the hit series, “Agatha All Along” on Disney+ around the world, which has been a big hit, pulling in over 4.6 million views in the first 24 hours.

In “Agatha All Along,” the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…

With the show coming to a conclusion, with Wiccan setting out on an adventure with Agatha to find his lost reincarnated brother, Tommy, aka Speed, many fans have been speculating when or where we might see the story continue.

The show has been very popular on Disney+, increasing its viewership week to week and since the show cost considerably less to make than most other Marvel shows, (less than a quarter of the price of “Secret Invasion), this has led to speculation that we could see a potential second season of “Agatha All Along” or that the characters might return in the upcoming “Vision Quest” series, or even something brand new.

According to Variety, Disney is planning on submitting “Agatha All Along” in a number of comedy categories for the upcoming awards season, which includes the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and the Emmys.

This has led to much speculation that “Agatha All Along” could potentially return for a second season, since Disney hasn’t submitted the show in the limited series categories.   Disney has also previously shifted some shows around between different categories to try to improve its chances of winning awards; most recently, both “Abbott Elementary” and “The Bear” were shifted to comedy categories.

Most people expected “Agatha All Along” to be a limited series, a one-and-done, like most other Marvel shows so far.  However, there is a legitimate reason as to why “Agatha All Along” can’t be nominated in the limited series categories.

This is because the Television Academy’s criteria for the limited series state: “The program must tell a complete, non-recurring story and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”

Since the show ended on a cliffhanger to set up the character on another adventure, plus its pretty obvious that Agatha and Wiccan will be returning, either in a new movie or Disney+ show in the future such as “Vision Quest” or “Young Avengers”, it would mean “Agatha All Along” wouldn’t fit the criteria to be nominated as a limited series.

Marvel Television’s “Agatha All Along” stars Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, with Debra Jo Rupp, with Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and Jac Schaeffer, who is also the head writer. The directors for the series include Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg and Gandja Monteiro.

Roger’s Take: I’ve zero doubt that Agatha and Wiccan will be returning to our screens, maybe in their own series, or in another show or film, which is ultimately the reason why “Agatha All Along” can’t be nominated in the limited series category, but considering the success of the first series so far, Disney could decide to try a second season, with them trying to find Tommy.

Marvel hasn’t officially announced that a second season of “Agatha All Along” is happening, nor has it confirmed when these characters might return, but hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
