Black Panther Spinoff Disney+ Series Featuring Okoye Reported To Be Going Into Production
Earlier this year, it was revealed by Danai Gurira’s lawyer Jamie Mandelbaum that he had brokered a deal for her to reprise her role as Okoye in the upcoming Black Panther sequel, “Wakanda Forever”, but also in an origin spinoff series for Disney+.
Okoye is the General of the Dora Milaje and the head of Wakandan armed forces and intel. She has previously appeared in “Black Panther”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, and “Avengers: Endgame”. However, the character didn’t appear in this years “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” Disney+ series, which featured members of the Dora Milaje.
Marvel is currently developing multiple “Black Panther” spinoffs, with filming currently underway on the sequel movie “Black Panther: Wakana Forever”, which is due to hit our screens in November 2022. Another Disney+ series that is also in development is the “Kingdom Of Wakanda”, which is being developed by Black Panther director and co-writer Ryan Coogler. It’s not 100% clear if the two Disney+ projects are the same, or if Disney is developing two separate shows for its streaming service, since Disney hasn’t officially announced an Okoye series. But it’s not uncommon for reports to start circulating before official announcements.
According to The GWW, this new Disney+ series is due to go into production in 2023. So it would be likely to be a few years until the series arrived on Disney+.
No other details on what this new Okoye series could be about have yet been revealed, such as if it’s an origin story or a continuation of the Wakanda/Dora Milaje storyline.
