Disney is currently developing a new live-action remake of its classic animated film, “Lilo & Stitch”, which will be released exclusively on Disney+.

In the original film, which was released in 2002 and told the story of Stitch, a runaway genetic experiment from a faraway planet, who crash lands on Earth and as he wreaks havoc on the Hawaiian Islands, he becomes the mischievous adopted alien “puppy” of an independent little girl named Lilo, and together they learn about loyalty, friendship and ‘ohana, the Hawaiian tradition of the family.

The new live-action version is going to be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who has previously directed the Oscar-nominated film, “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On”.  The film will also star Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) and newcomer Maia Kealoha as the title character, Lilo.   The script has been written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, who is working on a previous draft by Mike Van Waes.

According to Deadline, Billy Magnussen is also going to be starring in the film, though it’s unknown what role Billy will be playing.  Billy Magnussen has previously starred in the James Bond film, “No Time To Die” and the live-action remake of Disney’s “Aladdin”.

No release date has yet been announced for “Lilo & Stitch”, but in the meantime, you can watch the original animated film on Disney+ now.
