2023 is delivering plenty of great new shows on Disney+ from many of Walt Disney Studios’ including Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th Television & much more.

Here’s the rundown of some of the best series of 2023 available on Disney+ so far:

A Small Light

Twentysomething Miep Gies didn’t hesitate when her boss Otto Frank came to her and asked her to hide his family from the Nazis during World War II. For the next two years, Miep, her husband Jan, and the other helpers watched over the eight souls in hiding in the Secret Annex. And it was Miep who found Anne’s Diary and kept it safe so Otto, the only one of the eight who survived, could later share it with the world as one of the most powerful accounts of the Holocaust. This hard hitting drama series is one of the best shows of 2023, and I’d highly recommend you watch it.

Secret Invasion

In Marvel Studios’ new series “Secret Invasion,” set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity. If you enjoyed the more down to earth style of the MCU, then this show maybe for you. It’s one of the most expensive shows Disney+ has made and it features an all-star cast. I’d certainly say any Marvel fan should take their time out to watch “Secret Invasion”

The Mandalorian – Season 3

The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue in Season 3. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian crosses paths with old allies and makes new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together. Mando is the poster boy for Disney+ and this third season is a must for Star Wars fans. While it might not be as good as previous seasons, there’s plenty here to enjoy, as I certainly did.

American Born Chinese

Based on Gene Luen Yang’s groundbreaking graphic novel that chronicles the trials and tribulations of a regular American teenager whose life is forever changed when he befriends the son of a mythological god. This is the story of a young man’s battle for his own identity, told through family, comedy, and action-packed Kung-Fu. If you enjoyed “Everything, Everywhere All At Once” or fancy a superhero series with a difference, its a unique show, that I think more people should check out, as it’s got an all-star cast and a fantastic story.

Muppets Mayhem

The musical comedy series follows The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora, the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album. For old fans of the Muppets, after years of playing around with different formats, this one might just have hit and hopefully bring some new fans into the franchise along the way.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – Season 4

After an epic summer at Camp Shallow Lake, the Wildcats return to East High where they prepare a stage production of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” But plans are disrupted when Principal Gutierrez announces that Disney has decided to make the long-awaited “High School Musical 4: The Reunion” movie on location at their beloved high school. With this being the final season of the show, it goes out on top, recapturing that unique feel that only Disney can provide. It’s a perfect way to close this show out!

Ed Sheeren – The Sum Of It All

For the first time ever, global superstar, Ed Sheeran opens the doors to a definitive and searingly honest view into his private life as he explores the universal themes that inspire his music. This series follows Ed after he learns of life changing news and reveals his hardships and triumphs during the most challenging period of his life. This original 4-part series features exclusive footage behind his iconic hits, never-before-seen personal archive with his friends and family, and epic stadium performances giving insight into Ed’s world. This documentary series is one of the biggest surprises of the year, Ed is completely open about his feelings in this powerful documentary and if your a fan of his music, this is a must watch.

Internationally, there are many other shows available on Disney+ from 20th Television, FX and ABC, which are also available on Hulu in the United States.

The Bear – Season 2

FX’s critically acclaimed Original series “The Bear” is about food, family, the insanity of the grind, the beauty of Sense of Urgency and the steep slippery downsides. As young chef Carmy and crew work to transform their grimy sandwich shop into a next-level spot, they undertake transformational journeys of their own, each forced to confront the past and reckon with who they want to be in the future. Easily one of my favourite show of 2023 so far.

Only Murders In The Building – Season 3

Season three finds Charles, Oliver & Mabel (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) investigating a murder behind the scenes of a Broadway show. Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) is a Hollywood action star whose Broadway debut is cut short by his untimely death. Aided by co-star Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), our trio embarks on their toughest case yet, all while director Oliver desperately attempts to put his show back together. Curtain’s up! This quirky comedy series is certainly one of the highlights of the Star Original line up and a show I check out each Tuesday morning when a new episode is uploaded.

Futurama – Season 11

The adventures of a late-20th-century New York City pizza delivery boy, Philip J. Fry, who, after being unwittingly cryogenically frozen for one thousand years, finds employment at Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery company in the retro-futuristic 31st century. If you love “The Simpsons”, you should love this series too! The eleventh season is perfectly able to hit the nostalgia side of this classic show, while also delivering its sharp take on modern society. If you enjoyed the previous seasons, give it a whirl!

The Clearing

“The Clearing” is an emotional and psychological thriller that follows the nightmares of a cult and a woman who’s forced to face the demons from her past in order to stop the kidnapping and coercion of innocent children in the future. The series burrows under the skin and inside the mind, blurring the lines between past and present, reality and nightmare in a truly unnerving way This Australian drama series is very weird, but with an all-star cast, its a unique limited series worthy of your time.

The Full Monty

The original band of brothers as they navigate Sheffield and its crumbling healthcare, education and employment sectors, exploring the brighter, sillier and more humane way forward where communal effort can still triumph over adversity. If you enjoyed the original film, this is a must watch. It’s a great comedy series, that deals with many of the issues in the UK right now and don’t be too put off with the idea its about a bunch of male strippers, as that is very much in their past.

Extraordinary

In a world where everyone develops a power on their 18th birthday, Jen didn’t. She’s turning 25 and is still waiting to get hers. Adrift in a big, confusing world and armed with nothing but a bit of hope and a lot of desperation, Jen begins her journey to find her maybe-superpower. But in doing so, she might discover the joy of being just kind of ok. One of the funniest series I’ve seen in a while, its a mix up between “Derry Girls” and “The Boys”. I was enjoying this show so much, I ended up binging the entire season in one sitting and a second season is hitting our screens in 2024.

Saint X

The psychological drama “Saint X,” which is told via multiple timelines and perspectives, explores and upends the girl-gone-missing genre. It’s a show about how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth. Another example of the fantastic drama series that Disney+ and Hulu makes, that many people might not have seen.

Tiny Beautiful Things

This series is based on the best-selling collection by Cheryl Strayed, Tiny Beautiful Things follows Clare (Kathryn Hahn) a writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart.

When we first meet Clare, her marriage to her husband Danny is barely limping along; her teenage daughter, Rae, is pushing her away; and her once-promising writing career is non-existent. So when an old writing pal asks her to take over as the advice columnist Dear Sugar, she thinks she has no business giving anyone advice. After reluctantly taking on the mantle of Sugar however, Clare’s life unfurls in a complex fabric of memory, exploring her most pivotal moments from childhood through present day, and excavating the beauty, struggle, and humor in her unhealed wounds. Through Sugar, Clare forms a salve for her readers – and for herself – to show us that we are not beyond rescue, that our stories can ultimately save us. And, perhaps, bring us back home. It’s a hard hitting drama series that might not be for everyone, but its a compelling show.
