Ben Stiller Makes Fun Of “Heavyweights” Being Available On Disney+
This past week, the Disney movie, “Heavyweights” celebrated the 30th anniversary of its initial release. It tells the hilarious story of a group of underdog kids who discover their beloved summer camp has been sold to a crazy fitness fanatic who’s determined to make their lives miserable! The new owner plans to keep the boys huffing and puffing, but these hungry kids have a plan of their own. They unite to turn the tables, take back their woodsy hideaway, and challenge the rival camp to the most outrageous summer games of all!
The film starred Tom McGowan, Aaron Schwartz, Shaun Weiss, Tom Hodges, Leah Lail, Paul Feig, Kenan Thompson, David Bowe, Max Goldblatt, Robert Zalkind, Patrick LaBrecque, Jeffrey Tambor, Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, and Ben Stiller.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film, a fan tagged Ben Stiller in a social media post about the film, to which Ben replied:
Somehow I don’t think this will be at the head of the Disney+ queue ever. In fact I’m not sure they are aware they made it. But that was an incredibly fun summer in North Carolina 30 years ago.
The film is available to stream on Disney+ in many countries, including the United States, Canada and Australia.
Disney has a bad habit of “forgetting” many of its classic films, with thousands of titles unavailable to stream on Disney+. So it’s lucky that “Heavyweights” is still available, especially after it’s already been delisted from Disney+ in some countries like the UK. This is probably because nobody was watching it, and Disney wanted to save some money.
The company also doesn’t tend to celebrate the release of many of its classic movies unless it can monetise it with merchandise for major animated titles. Since it has so many movies, there is usually an anniversary of something being released every day.
