Anna Diop To Star In Hulu’s “The Man In My Basement”
More casting details have been revealed for the upcoming movie adaptation of the Walter Mosley novel, “The Man In My Basement”, which is going to be directed by Nadia Latif, who will be making her feature directorial debut.
The film tells the story of Charles Blakey, who is out of work, out of luck and on the verge of foreclosure on his ancestral home. A knock on the door from a mysterious businessman, Anniston Bennet, brings a bizarre and lucrative proposition; rent his dusty stand-up basement out for the summer and receive enough money to clear his debts for good. Once Charles accepts, he finds himself led down a terrifying path that confronts his family’s ghosts and locks the men in a terrifying puzzle at the heart of its race, the source of their traumas and the root of all evil.
It is going to star Corey Hawkins in the lead role of Charles Blakey. Originally, Jonathan Majors had been linked to the project, but was dropped once all the allegations of violence.
William Defoe will be starring in the film as Anniston Bennet, and according to Variety, Anna Diop has joined the cast of the film and will play the role of Narciss Gully, a local academic and antiques expert who is passionate about having African American history told — particularly the history of African American women.
Anna Diop has previously starred “The Nanny”, “Titans” and “24: Legacy”.
The upcoming film is going to be created by Disney and ESPN’s Andscape. It will be produced by B.O.B. FilmHouse, Protagonist Pictures and Good Gate Media.
“The Man In My Basement” is due to be released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States, and we will likely also see it released as a Star Original on Disney+ around the world. No exact release date for the film has yet been announced.
