20th Television has been developing a new single-camera comedy pilot called “The Son In Law”, which starred Reema Sampat, Meera Simhan, Anupam Kher, Evangeline Young and Chris Sullivan.

The show was about a salt-of-the-earth man, Jake (Sullivan), who finds himself seeking the approval of his new fiancée Asha’s (Sampat) sophisticated parents, even as he is a difficult-to-impress father-in-law to his daughter’s longtime boyfriend.

Deadline has revealed that ABC has passed on making “The Son In Law” into a full series. Had the pilot been given the go-ahead, we would have seen it released as a Star Original on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu in the US.

“The Son In Law” was written and executive produced by Ajay Sahgal, with Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar also executive producing. The Detective Agency produced the show with 20th Television.
