Disney’s ABC has ordered a pilot of a new single-camera comedy called “Public Defenders”, which is being created by “Acapulco” and “Duncanville” writer Eddie Quintana and McG.

The new project is being created by 20th Television and follows four inexperienced public defenders, up to their earholes in student loan debt, who work tirelessly to keep their clients out of jail. Along the way, they have to rely on each other to navigate their first defendants, the absurd court system, and the copy machine that always jams.

It will be written and executive produced by Eddie Quintana, with McG. Mary Viola and Corey Marsh from Wonderland Sound and Vision also executive producing. McG has previously worked on the Disney+ Original series, “Turner & Hooch” and the upcoming series, “Not Dead Yet”, in addition to previously directing the “Charlie’s Angels” films and “Terminator Salvation”.

This will be the second pilot order for Eddie Quintana with ABC, having previously worked on “Grace”, which didn’t move forward to a full series.

Should the pilot get the go ahead to be turned into a series, we should expect to see it released on ABC and Hulu in the United States and released internationally as a Star Original on Disney+.
