“Abbot Elementary’s” Lisa Ann Walker To Star In First Ever Comedy Special For Hulu

Disney continues to build out its Hularious comedy brand with new original specials following the success of its collaborations with Ilana Glazer, Roy Wood, Jr., Chris Distefano, Bill Burr, and more.

According to Deadline, Disney has signed a new deal with Lisa Ann Walker for her first-ever comedy special, which is due to be released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S. and on Disney+ internationally in 2026.

Lisa is most well known for her role of Melissa Schemmenti in the hit comedy series, “Abbott Elementary”. She has been working on the stand-up circuit for twenty years. She has also worked in many comedy films and shows, including “Bruce Almighty” and “Shall We Dance”. Other blockbuster films in her career include Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds” and the action comedy “Killers”. Other films include “Drillbit Taylor”, “Eddie”, and “The Trouble with Dee Dee,” which garnered her six Festival Best Actress Awards.

Based on her years as a national touring standup comedy headliner, Walter co-created, produced, and starred in several network sitcoms: Fox’s “My Wildest Dreams” and ABC’s “Life’s Work,” the highest-rated new show on ABC for the season, averaging 19 million viewers per week. She was also the creator/writer and EP of her own half-hour single-camera series, “Bitter.” She’s very proud of co-starring in “The More Things Change,” an everyday trans woman half-hour comedy, where she also served as executive producer, which debuted at Outfest 2019. She recently directed and starred in the comedic short “Jersey.”

Walter was honoured to appear on the Netflix special “Laugh In: The Stars Celebrate,” as Lily Tomlin and the cast formed her early love of comedy. She is recurring in the longest-running medical drama on TV, “Grey’s Anatomy,” and has enjoyed many guest and recurring TV roles over the years, including 20th Television’s “9-1-1,” and Netflix’s “GLOW” as Betty Gilpin’s mother, as well as numerous independent feature films.

The special is produced by Art & Industry and is executive-produced and directed by Lisa Ann Walter. Her “Abbott Elementary” co-star, Sheryl Lee Ralph, will also be an executive producer, along with Michelle Caputo and Shannon Hartman.

No release date for the upcoming comedy special has been revealed, but it will be filmed at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, PA.
