“Food Samurai” Coming Soon To Disney+ In The US & Canada

Disney has picked up the North American rights for Disney+ for the upcoming documentary series “Food Samurai”, which is about the Michelin-starred chef Mory Sacko, a well-known celebrity chef in France who has appeared on the French edition of “Top Chef”.

This six-episode series follows Mory as he immerses himself in Japanese culture and gastronomy to learn how to prepare the perfect bento. It tells the story of Mory’s first time in Japan as he sets out to master a cuisine he has admired since childhood. He has encounters and goes on tastings, engages in centuries-old traditions and eats from small street food stalls to uncover what makes Japan’s food culture tick.

The documentary will also star pastry chef Theó Segretin, “Lupin” star Omar Sy, multi-Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire, and writer Chihiro Masui.

“Food Samurai” has been created, produced and directed by Eric Nebot, who said in a statement regarding the show:

“We all have an idea of Japan – we think we know sushi, tempura or yakitori, but through Mory’s eyes, we discovered just how limited our imagination had been: the air between grains of sushi rice, the sound of tempura, the discipline of fire. The same was true of Hiroshima. Oppenheimer brought the bomb back into popular culture without taking us there. Meeting a survivor made that history immediate and human. Food Samurai is about going beyond what we think we know.”

Eric has previously worked on “Filmlovers”, “Visions” and “The Disintegration”.

According to Deadline, the show will premiere on Disney+ in the United States on September 30th 2026. No Canada release date has been confirmed, but I’d expect it to be at the same time.
