FX Not Moving Forward With “Witness Protection” Series
Last year, it was revealed that Disney’s FX was developing a new pilot called “Witness Protection”, which would tell the story of what happens when a violent confrontation drives a high-end D.C. madam to turn on her partner and enter witness protection in seaside Maine with her adolescent daughter.
Unfortunately, according to Deadline, FX has decided not to move ahead with the project.
The pilot starred Alison Brie, along with Pablo Schreiber, Zoë Chao, Jamie Neumann, Aidan Gillen, Ashley Thomas and Finn Wittrock.
The pilot was created by Hannah Fidell and Gina Welch, who previously worked on FX’s “Clipped”, were the co-showrunners, writers and executive producers. Hannah directed the pilot, with Nicole Lambert of Riverain Pictures also executive producing the show.
This is one of many pilots that haven’t been given the greenlight to a series and highlights the reason that studios make pilots, since it allows them an opportunity to see what a project looks like on screen, make any tweaks to creative or talent to make it better or ultimately decide that it’s just not going to work. In doing so, this saves the studio money and the public hasn’t become invested in the project, so the studio can just move on to the next thing.
