Hulu Orders “The X-Files” Reboot Pilot

Disney has had plenty of success in rebooting or reviving established franchises, and the next one set to potentially hit our screens is a reboot of the iconic “The X-Files”, as Disney’s Onyx Collective and 20th Television are developing the project, with Hulu giving the project a pilot greenlight.

This series follows two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents, who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

Danielle Deadwyler has been brought onto the project as one of the co-leads. Danielle has previously starred in “The Piano Lesson” and “Carry On”.

The reboot is being created by Ryan Coogler, who is behind the “Black Panther” films and he will be writing and directing the pilot. Deadline has revealed that Jennifer Yale has come on board as showrunner and executive producer. She has previously worked on “The Copenhagen Test”.

“The X-Files” creator Chris Carter will also be an executive producer, along with Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler of Proximity Media. Simone Harris is a co-executive producer. The pilot is being cast by Sinners casting director Francine Maisler.

As with any pilot, it’s possible that the project might not necessarily get the go-ahead to a full series or go through some more creative changes to tweak it for a series order. We also might never actually see the pilot released, but hopefully, after many years working on the reboot, it’ll eventually arrive on Hulu and Disney+ in the future.

The original “X-Files” series debuted in 1993 and starred Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as FBI Special Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, who investigate cases involving paranormal phenomena. The show ran for eleven seasons and also had two spin-off movies released. These can be streamed now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.

Roger’s Take:  As a huge fan of the original series, (I even had a “I Want To Believe” poster on my bedroom wall for years!), I’m looking forward to the return of “The X-Files”, as I think it’s been long enough for a fresh take on the franchise.  While I would have preferred a revival, where it’s set in modern times, a complete reboot is probably the best thing for a new generation.
