Searchlight Pictures’ Acquire Rights To “Grand Rising”
Disney’s Searchlight Pictures has secured the rights to a short story from A.C. Robinson called “Grand Rising”, which is a new psychological horror-thriller.
No plot details on the upcoming film have been revealed, but we should hopefully find out more information at a later date, such as what the story is about, who will star in it and when it will be released. It’ll also be interesting to see if this film will get a theatrical release, or be released directly onto Hulu and Disney+.
This new film is going to be directed by Steven Caple Jr, who previously worked on “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”, who said in a statement to Deadline:
“A.C Robinson has crafted something that’s both deeply intimate and genuinely unsettling. It’s new territory for me as a director, and working with Lena and Searchlight to bring this family’s story to the screen is the kind of creative challenge that excites me most.”
Lena Waithe, who worked on “Queen & Slim”, will be adapting the story to a script, and she also said in a statement:
“A.C.’s short story is funny, timely, and soul stirring. I am beyond grateful to work with Steven Caple Jr., Scott Glassgold and Searchlight Pictures to bring this psychological thriller to life.”
She will produce the film for Hillman Grad, alongside Caple Jr. for Grey Skies Pictures, and Scott Glassgold for 12:01 Films. Jeannette Francis will exec produce for Grey Skies Pictures. SVP of Production Rayne Roberts and Creative Executive Cameron Chidsey are overseeing the project for Searchlight Pictures, reporting to Heads of Production and Development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
