Disney+ To Launch New Bundle With TVING & Wavve In Korea
Disney has announced a brand-new streaming bundle for Disney+ with TVING and Wavve in Korea, marking the first bundle combining a global streaming service and a local Korean service.
This new deal, which is available from today, will let customers to save money, when compared to subscribing to these three platforms individually.
There are two bundles available, a triple bundle of Disney+, TVING and Wavve, which will be priced at KRW21,500 ($14.67) per month, which saves up to 37% when compared to getting them individually.
There is also another bundle with Disney+ and TVING for KRW18,000 ($12.28) per month, which is a saving of up to 23%. Individually, Disney+ costs KRW9,900 ($6.75) per month and TVING costs KRW13,500 ($9.21) per month.
This continues the trend of streaming services offering bundles, such as the bundle of Disney+, Hulu and HBO Max in the United States. It’s been proven that bundles help reduce churn, as people are more less likely to unsubscribe to a bundle, since they are more than likely to be using one of those apps regularly.
Disney also recently made a deal with TVING to bring Korean original programming to Disney+ in Japan.
Tony Zameczkowski, Senior Vice President and General Manager, DTC (Direct-to-Consumer), Asia Pacific, The Walt Disney Company, said in a statement regarding the bundle:
“This collaboration marks a bold step for Disney+ in Korea and a key move in our Asia-Pacific strategy, as we continue to explore innovative ways to scale our business and deepen engagement across the region.
By partnering with TVING and Wavve, we’re expanding our reach, enriching the content ecosystem, and offering greater value to consumers. We’re also proud to support the global journey of Korean content and hope this sets a new standard for cross-border collaboration in the streaming industry.”
Soyoun Kim, Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company Korea, added:
“We believe this partnership will be a game-changer for the Korean streaming market and look forward to creating more meaningful opportunities to serve evolving viewer needs.”
Julie Choi, CEO of TVING, also added:
“We are pleased that the bundled plan created through the partnership with Disney+ allows us to provide audiences with access to Disney+ content and a richer library at a more affordable price. We also look forward to seeing more Korean stories reach new audiences around the world and be loved by them through our collaboration with Disney+ Japan.”
Roger’s Take: Disney continues to make more deals with other companies to expand the reach of Disney+ even further, and this will help reduce subscriber churn. It also continues to show how committed Disney is to the Korean market, especially with its constant investment in original programming, and we will likely see more bundles launching in other countries.
