“Tron” & “Tron: Legacy” To Be Re-Released On Digital & 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray

During the Walt Disney Studios Showcase at this weekend’s Destination D23, Disney has announced that just ahead of the release of “Tron: Ares” in cinemas in October, that it has fully remastered the original 1982 cult classic “TRON” and the 2010 sequel “TRON: Legacy” in 4K Ultra HD and will be re-releasing them on digital and Blu-ray SteelBook beginning Tuesday, 16th September 2025.

“Tron” tells the story of what happens when brilliant video game maker Flynn (Jeff Bridges) hacks the mainframe of his ex-employer, he is beamed inside an astonishing digital world…and becomes part of the very game he is designing. In his mission through cyberspace, Flynn matches wits with a maniacal Master Control Program and teams up with Tron, a security measure created to bring balance to the digital environment.

In “Tron: Legacy”, viewers can immerse themselves in the high-tech digital world of TRON: Legacy, as Jeff Bridges stars in a revolutionary visual effects adventure beyond imagination. When Flynn, the world’s greatest video game creator, sends out a secret signal from an amazing digital realm, his son discovers the clue and embarks on a personal journey to save his long-lost father. With the help of the fearless female warrior Quorra, father and son venture through an incredible cyber universe, take on a rogue hacking program and wage the ultimate battle of good versus evil.

With the re-release of these films, we can expect the version available on Disney+ to eventually be upgraded to the new 4K version, although it may take months after the digital/physical release, in an effort to encourage people to purchase the new version rather than waiting for a streaming version.
