Disney+ Dive-In Theater Experiences To Launch In Los Angeles

Disney has announced that it is teaming up with Swimply to launch a special Dive-In Theatre Experience in Los Angeles this summer.

Swimply is a pioneering pool-sharing platform connecting pool owners with swimmers seeking private, real-life local experiences, today announced the launch of the Disney+ Dive-in Theater, a first-of-its-kind, exclusive summer collaboration that reimagines poolside movie nights as fully immersive cinematic experiences. As part of the Disney+ Throwback campaign, select Swimply-hosted private pools across Los Angeles will be transformed into larger-than-life recreations of beloved films, including “Alien”, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, and “Camp Rock”.

Samantha Rosenberg, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Disney+ said in a statement:

“The Disney+ Dive-in Theater allows fans to connect with their favorite films in a way they’ve never been able to before.  Following the success of our Disney+ Throwback Experience earlier this summer, we’re seeing audiences crave real-world experiences that let them step into the stories they love. Swimply’s unique platform brings these immersive experiences to life in intimate, exclusive settings that create lasting memories with friends and family.”

Unlike traditional outdoor screenings, each Disney+ Dive-in Theater activation offers a fully themed environment where every detail – from photo ops to interactive elements – is designed to plunge guests into the story. Whether it’s swimming in a giant bowl of cereal or floating in tinted, fog-filled water, these Swimply properties will be transformed, blurring the line between movie magic and real life.

Bunim Laskin, CEO and Co-Founder of Swimply, said in a statement:

“Swimply is all about escaping locally and transporting yourself to another realm – both physically and mentally.  On the screen, nobody does that better than Disney+, so we couldn’t be more excited to collaborate and bring that magic to Swimply backyards.”

Disney+ Dive-in Theater Experiences include:

  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (July 29 – August 1): Guests enter through a giant “shrink ray” laser tunnel and emerge in a giant-sized world featuring a cereal bowl swimming pool, Cheerio pool floats, a towering popcorn box, and massive ants.
  • Camp Rock (August 6 – 9): Camp vibes come to life with bunk assignments, a fire pit, and DIY friendship bracelet stations. Fan-favorite movie moments are enhanced with a lakeside feel and a stage perfect for sing-along moments.
  • Alien (August 14 – 17): Dive into deep space with spaceship decor and atmospheric fog. Guests will be recruited by Weyland-Yutani agents, pose in a flight suit, and watch the film surrounded by eerie green lighting and sci-fi sound design.

The Disney+ and Swimply collaboration is part of the broader Disney+ Throwback campaign, a celebration of the iconic movies and series that defined a generation. Through nostalgic programming and IRL activations, Disney+ is inviting fans to relive the beloved stories from the ‘90s and 2000s across Disney+ and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers.

The limited-time experiences will run from late July through August, and starting today, fans can enter for a chance to attend directly through the Swimply app or Swimply.com.

This is a nice little promotional offer for those living nearby, and it will undoubtedly provide plenty of social media opportunities over the summer. However, I do wonder how much interest this campaign will generate, given its limited scope and eligibility requirements.

Will you be checking out one of these events this summer?  Let me know on social media!
