Disney Beats YouTube & Netflix For TV Viewing In April 2024
The battle for people’s attention has never been tougher and Disney has many different networks and platforms to reach people, with linear channels and streaming services like Disney+.
But many people don’t realise just how much content Disney releases, since it releases them under many different brands including ABC, FX, ESPN, National Geographic, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and Disney.
Recently, Nielsen has released its “Gauge” data for April 2024, which looks at the cross-platform TV consumption by all media cmopanies and it highlights that Disney’s content is the most consumed across the United States, taking up 11.5% of all total TV viewing, which is about 42% based on Disney+ and Hulu.
This chart highlights how Disney content is still the most watched on US TV’s, beating not just Netflix, but also YouTube too. So while there is lots of attention on streaming viewership, linear viewership is still reaching a large audience.
It also highlights how Comcast, Paramount and Paramount also continue to get more viewership than Netflix, when their linear and streaming platforms are combined, showing more of a combined picture, since Netflix is often portrayed as so much further ahead than the other studios.
Roger’s POV: It’s certainly interesting seeing how when everything is combined from the different studios, it highlights the true picture of the reach of television, where linear still has a huge audience that is often overlooked.
