20th Century Studios Developing “24” Movie
Ever since Disney purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019, it has been diving into the back catalogue for inspiration for new projects. Some of these projects, like “Prey”, have been excellent; however, they’ve also had some misses with titles like “Cheaper By The Dozen”.
According to Deadline, 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment are in the early stages of development on a feature-length version of the popular series “24”.
“24” tells the story of Jack Bauer, an agent working for Los Angeles’s Counter Terrorist Unit, along with his team, who tries to thwart multiple terrorist plots to protect innocent people. The unique factor of this series was that each episode represented an hour in real-time, so the entire series consisted of 24 episodes, though in later seasons, this was changed.
The original series debuted in 2001 and ran for nine seasons. The franchise also spawned a TV movie called “Redemption” in 2008, which was created as the result of a writer’s strike, causing the delay of the seventh season. There has also been an attempt to reboot the franchise with a different character with “24: Legacy“.
No other details on the “24” project have been revealed, such as what the plot would be or if Kiefer Sutherland will be returning to play Jack Bauer.
With this project still in the early stages of development, it could still be years until something hits our screens, that’s if the project does go ahead!
While we wait to see if this project comes to anything, you can watch the previous seasons of “24” on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the US and on Disney+ around the world.
Roger’s Take: I was a huge fan of “24” when it first came out, but over the seasons, it slowly lost steam. I’m also not sure how the show would work in today’s political world, but it could be interesting to see how Jack could be pulled out of retirement for one last job.
