Disney has released a trailer for the upcoming French original series “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld.”  This six-episode series tells the story for the first time of the emergence of fashion’s most mysterious designer, Karl Lagerfeld. Between glamour and clashes of egos, grandiose parties and destructive passions, discover the story of Karl before Lagerfeld. 

This new series stars Daniel Brühl (“Falcon And The Winter Soldier”, “Nothing New in the West”, “Captain America: Civil War”, “Rush”) in the title role.

“Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” is set in 1972, when Karl is 38 and not yet wearing his iconic hairstyle. He is a ready-to-wear designer, unknown to the general public. While he meets and falls in love with the sultry Jacques de Bascher (Théodore Pellerin), an ambitious and troubling young dandy, the most mysterious of fashion designers dares to take on his friend (and rival) Yves Saint Laurent (Arnaud Valois), a genius of haute couture backed by the redoubtable businessman Pierre Bergé (Alex Lutz).

Jérôme Salle is at the helm of this major series, directing episodes 1, 2 and 6. He shares the role of executive producer with Jour Premier producer Arnaud de Crémiers. Audrey Estrougo directs episodes 3, 4 and 5. Isaure Pisani-Ferry is the creator of the series, with Jennifer Have and Raphaëlle Bacqué. Isaure Pisani-Ferry is also the series’ lead writer, co-writing all episodes with Dominique Baumard, Jennifer Have and Nathalie Hertzberg.

“Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” was created by Christophe Riandee, vice CEO of Sidonie Dumas’s production company. Isabelle Degeorges for Gaumont and Arnaud de Crémiers for Jour Premier produced the series.

“Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” will be released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally on June 7th, 2024.
