Disney has had a lot of success with the live-action remakes of its classic animated films, and currently, it’s developing a new version of the 2002 film, “Lilo & Stitch” for Disney+.

In the original animated film, Stitch, an extraterrestrial entity, heads straight to planet Earth after he escapes his prison, where he tries to impersonate a dog. Things take a turn when Lilo adopts him from an animal shelter.

According to THR, Zach Galifianakis, has signed on to star in the new Disney+ film.  It’s not currently known what character he will be playing.  Zach has previously starred in Disney’s “A Wrinkle In Time”, Apple TV’s “The Beanie Bubble” and is most well known for his appearances in “The Hangover” films.

Currently, Disney is doing a wide search to find actors to play Lilo and her older sister.  As you’d expect, Stitch, will be a computer-generated character.

The new film is going to be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who has previously directed the Oscar-nominated ‘Marcel the Shell With Shoes On’.  The script has been written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright.   Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is executive producing.

The original animated film, plus its sequels, are available to stream now on Disney+.
