Last week, Disney released its latest animated movie, “Wish”, on Disney+ around the world, and Disney has revealed that the movie was watched 13.2 million times globally in the first five days, with a view being defined as total stream time divided by runtime.

In the Golden Globe-nominated movie, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

This premiere makes it the third biggest movie premiere for a Disney Animation Studios film on Disney+, behind “Encanto” and “Frozen 2”.  By comparison, when Pixar’s “Elemental” was released on Disney+ last year, it pulled in 26.4 million views over the first five days.   Other recent premieres, in the first five days after release, saw the first episode of “Ahsoka” watched 14 million times, the live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” pulled in 16 million views and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” pulled in 4.2 million views.

“Wish” features the voices of Academy Award-winning actor Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudyk as Asha’s favourite goat, Valentino; the film is helmed by Oscar-winning director Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, and produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones. “Wish” features a screenplay by Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore, original songs by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice, and an original score by composer Dave Metzger.

The movie suffered from a lacklustre run at the box office, pulling in $254 million globally, with many fans holding off watching the film in cinemas to watch it at home on Disney+ at a later date.
